Artist Statement

Born and raised on a farm, I have always had a love for the outdoors and for countryside and landscape views.  Combining that with my love for travel, it is easy to find subjects for my outdoor and landscape photography.  In my photography, I try to capture the scenery in a unique and beautiful way.  I want my photographs to reflect the scenery as a lasting memory of the great times I had visiting each specific site.  My photographs are as varied as the places I have visited. Even though I travel overseas as well, my real passion is for creating photographs of landscapes throughout this country from coast to coast. My photographs include scenes from Maine to Oregon/Washington to Hawaii as well as back home in Florida.

Biography

John David Busby (JD) was born in East Central Illinois and grew up on his parents’ farm.  JD holds an undergraduate and multiple graduate degrees in the various disciplines of Engineering, Management and Education from University of Illinois, Stanford University, Santa Clara University and University of South Florida.  His love for photography began in the early 70’s while he was living in California after graduating from Stanford University.

JD began shooting with black and white film and took photographs of the California landscape around the San Francisco Bay area.  He soon began experimenting with high contrast film in his own darkroom and created some unusual artistic results, which he began to display and sell at local art shows.  Shortly thereafter, JD ventured into color photography using slide film to capture the colors of the seascapes along the Monterey and Carmel coastlines.

Photography was always a serious hobby but JD had little time to devote to photography work in the 80’s and early 90’s because of the demands of raising a family and his management job at a local Florida college. In the mid 90’s, JD left his college job for a management position with a firm that focused on technology consulting in higher education.  With this career change, JD began to travel around the country and his interest in photography was rekindled as he visited many locations of photographic interest.

Photography took on a greater resurgence and interest for JD when the digital era began and the need for a darkroom ended. JD’s career always involved working with computer technology so he was no stranger to working with the Macintosh computer. Digital photography integrated nicely with the Mac and seemed like the perfect fit for JD with his knowledge of computers and his love for photography.

JD was accepted by iStockPhoto.com as a contributing stock photographer in 2005. Prints and framed photos are also sold privately through various local and web connections. The Blackberry Blossoms, a Blue Grass Band in southern Illinois, employed JD to do the photography work for the cover and insert of their second CD album released in the fall of 2008.
